Tutoring

heading

As a private tutor, my goals are:

1) to help my students become confident with the subject matter at hand by developing a broad and deep understanding.

2) to engage them in the material so that they will be inspired to keep learning.

I use my creative energy to keep kids interested in what they are learning. I always try to get to know my students and then relate the material to their passions (for example, long division is much more fun when it is ninja-themed). In the past, I have even written songs to help my students remember their times tables and perfect squares!

Experience

In college, I worked as a tutor with ThinkMath (back then the company was called Foundations for Education, or F4Ed). I worked with elementary-age children, using Singaporean curriculum to solidify and expand their understanding of math concepts. I've also worked directly with families to tutor their children in their homes. I have special expertise with autistic children. I've worked at an art studio and several summer camps, teaching groups of children everything from horseback riding to tye-dye! I currently work with Ace Online Tutoring.

Subjects

I'm comfortable tutoring reading, writing, and social studies at any level. I can teach science and math through 8th grade. I am happy to help students prepare for standardized tests, and I specialize in the SAT reading and writing sections. I can work with high school students on their college application essays. I can give art lessons as well. I speak French, so I can provide my students with a bilingual experience if desired.

Rates

My rates vary depending on the subject level and the number of students I'm teaching. I generally charge between $30 and $60 per hour. Send me an email and tell me what you have in mind, and we can negotiate a reasonable rate. Your satisfaction is very important to me, so I offer my first hour of tutoring at half price. This gives families a chance to meet me, get a feel for how I teach, and make a well-informed decision before investing too much.
